Big change on the way?
Quick update today:
Tule fog continues in the Central Valley and probably will persist for the rest of the week. SoCal will see a chance of some shower activity or even a thunderstorm through tomorrow as a result of a pesky cutoff in the region, but do not expect any significant precipitation outside of very isolated convective cores. The models are still struggling greatly with the pattern change slated for the weekend, but it does appear that much colder and probably wetter weather is in store for the entire West Coast. Very cold weather will likely develop in the PacNW with some lowland snowfall possible there. It is still too early to talk about low snow (<2500 feet) potential here (moderate in NorCal this weekend, slight in SoCal), but the extended forecast (days 10-20) bears watching for a possible retrogression of the mean trough to a position that would be very favorable for the advection of Arctic air into the region. Stay tuned.
